Shoot, Move, Communicate is the fundamental cycle behind all tactical shooting practices, and this 1-day course will give shooters the practical working knowledge they need to transition from static target shooters to working with the gun.

Introduction to SMC is 100% range time (i.e. no classroom element) which ensures participants get plenty of trigger time and get to immediately practice what they're learning. Our instructors also spend significant time on theory so that participants develop a solid understanding of why the tactics they are practicing are effective in the real world scenario being simulated.

Participants need a basic familiarity with their rifle and handgun, and be able to shoot safely on a regular static target line. Introduction to SMC is open to everyday citizens, no military, law enforcement, or other special experience required. Due to limited space participants must book online in advance.

Learning objectives

Introduction to Shoot, Move, Communicate is a 2 gun training course (rifle and pistol) featuring a series of tactical drills based on real world scenarios. You can expect to learn:

• Gun safety, and safe use of a tactical range including RSO commands.
• Marksmanship from atypical/unfamiliar shooting positions.
• Shooting during movement, muzzle control and situational awareness.
• Responding to threats while compromised (e.g. unable to use strong hand).
• Advanced weapon handling (e.g. combat reloads, transitions).
• Reacting under pressure (e.g. malfunction clearing).
• Threat assessment and decision making in engagements.
• Principals of concealment and cover, using cover in engagements.
• Vehicle work, shooting from within and around vehicles.
• Home defense and carry scenarios, working form a holster.
• Movement patterns and approaches to doors, windows, corners.

For each exercise throughout the day our experienced instructors will demonstrate correct technique, walk participants through drills, and give feedback to each participant individually.  By keeping class sizes small (4-6 participants) we ensure every student has the attention and coaching they need to become effective.

Schedule

Introduction to SMC runs multiple times each month, and is a 1-day course running from 10:00am until approximately 5pm, with a 30 minute break for lunch.

Please plan to arrive approximately 15 minutes early to sign in at the range and complete the safety briefing.

Gear/pack list

Introduction to SMC is a 2-gun event, so participants will need a rifle and a handgun they are familiar with, additional equipment and personal items required:

• Semi automatic rifle chambered in an intermediate cartridge, e.g. 5.56 or 7.62, and a semi automatic handgun in a common caliber.
• Sling for your rifle, 4 or more magazines for rifle and pistol. Any optic or iron sight configurations are acceptable.
• Sufficient standard factory loaded ammunition (e.g. no incendiary rounds or M855 on steel). Expect to use 200-250 rounds.
• Belt and/or chest rig with mag pouches and holster.
• Lunch, water, and snacks.
• Appropriate range attire; specifically long pants and closed shoes, and standard eye and ear protection is required to be worn at all times.
• Consider the weather and environment. Depending on location and time of year consider sunscreen and bug spray to stay comfortable.
